General Information About the Stay
PREPARING FOR THE DETOX
To ensure optimal detoxification and facilitate the proper course of the purges, it’s important that during the two days preceding the detox you follow a revitalization diet. This involves nourishing yourself with a maximum of raw fruits & vegetables, either whole or as fresh juices. It is therefore advised not to consume animal products, cooked food, starches, prepared raw food dishes, nuts/seeds, or oils during this period. This revitalization can be continued for the two days following the session, deepening and optimizing the work done.
- Notes:
To avoid potential interactions, it is necessary to stop all medication the day before and the day of the purge. - It is also important to stop all consumption of stimulants (refined sugar, tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc.) during this revitalization phase.
Alongside revitalization, sexual abstinence is also recommended for at least one day before and one day after the detox. It allows the body to accumulate energy and remain centered. On a psychodynamic level, we favor moments of introspection and meditation. We seek to clarify and establish the reason for wishing to receive the Kambo purge.
Failure to comply with the previous points can lead to psychological or physical discomfort and interfere with the work done.

Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS KAMBO?
Kambo is a natural substance extracted from the skin secretion of an Amazonian frog called the Giant Monkey Frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor). It gets its name from its size and its inclination to climb trees. Due to the high toxicity of the poison it exudes through its skin when stressed, it doesn’t have to worry about predators or infections.
Note that this frog produces a poison, not a venom. A venom requires a wound to cause illness, whereas a poison does not; it is active simply through contact or ingestion.
It is obviously not recommended to ingest this substance. However, applying just a few drops of this poison onto the skin after superficially burning the epidermis causes a very profound purgative effect lasting about 30 minutes, inducing sweating, vomiting, tears, and potentially diarrhea. This purge, which primarily targets the liver, gives way to a great sensation of lightness, joy, and lucidity.
The idea of using a poison or venom for healing isn’t new, as substances we label as toxic or poisonous simply indicate they contain highly active molecules even in very small quantities. Whether from a bee, snake, frog, or even a mollusk, poisons and venoms have interesting health virtues if used correctly. This illustrates well, as Paracelsus said, that the dose makes the poison.
TRADITIONAL USE OF KAMBO
Only a few tribes in Peru and Brazil have used this “medicine” traditionally for several centuries. These peoples used Kambo (before adopting Western customs) for two main reasons:
– To make hunters stronger. To prepare themselves physically and mentally, they would purge with Kambo the day before a hunting expedition.
– In case of illness, they resorted to Kambo to cleanse the body of physical and energetic toxins. Several sessions could take place until health drove out the illness, just as light drives out darkness.
Although there are protocol variations according to traditions, Kambo was generally used to have more energy, be healthier, and combat depression and infertility problems.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A KAMBO PURGE?
Beforehand, one should have fasted for at least 6 hours and not have consumed drugs, medications, or stimulants (tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.) the day before and on the day itself.
A few seconds after applying Kambo, the body turns red and one feels an intense sensation of heat due to vasodilation. Blood rushes to the head, the face may swell, and sometimes swallowing becomes difficult. Heart rate and body temperature increase. Participants then begin to sweat and may also experience chills.
Then comes a second phase characterized by general pallor, cold skin, significant sweating, decreased heart rate, and a marked feeling of weakness. Often, strong nausea occurs in this phase and pushes the participant to vomit until their stomach is empty. Diarrhea or liquid evacuations are possible, especially in cases where there was no vomiting. Vomiting or diarrhea occur due to the contraction effect on the smooth muscle tissues surrounding various human organs, causing them to exude internal fluids, including bile from the gallbladder.
Then comes the third and final phase, which manifests when the aforementioned symptoms begin to gradually disappear. Drowsiness and fatigue may occur, and generally, the participant is invited to rest for a period of 30 to 60 minutes.
During the Kambo session, most shamans sing or play an instrument. Some spiritual purification rituals may also be involved, as each shaman has their own rituals.
The first Kambo experience can be very frightening. Learning about this practice is one thing, but experiencing it is truly intense. That said, it largely depends on our relationship with vomiting.
If the effects so far don’t sound very appealing, one nevertheless feels completely revitalized and wonderfully well in mind and body following a Kambo session. This very pleasant sensation generally lasts for several hours. The next day, one feels more vibrant and thoughts are clearer than ever. Some physical discomforts may be reduced or even completely dissipated. Shamans believe that repeating the Kambo ritual over several consecutive days can even heal significant ailments.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF KAMBO?
Experience shows that Kambo brings the following benefits:
• Reduction of chronic pain
• Improved mood
• Strengthened immune system
• Improved digestion
• Reduction of stress and anxiety states
• Increased body energy and physical endurance
• Inner well-being
• Improved cognitive abilities
• Greater mental clarity
Furthermore, it is recognized as a powerful antidepressant and helps to break certain addictions and phobias.
The most significant benefit Kambo offers is boosting the immune system and, simultaneously, providing the body with a complete cleansing: biliary and lymphatic flush; evacuation of acids and mucus. Not to mention its more subtle mental, emotional, memory-related, and energetic effects, which are harder to measure but are nevertheless felt.
The power of this emotional, memory-related, energetic cleansing and the profound feeling of relief experienced after the purge is probably linked to the act of vomiting itself. As if it contained a strong symbolic charge – that of bringing out buried things, those things within us that disgust us and are to be ‘vomited out,’ as common language says. Through vomiting, the body can release its emotional and muscular armoring and subsequently promote a deep release of tensions.
That said, Kambo should not substitute for your medical therapy, and it is important to inform your doctor if you wish to use it.
WHAT DOES SCIENCE SAY ABOUT KAMBO?
Science has been interested in Kambo since the 1930s when Peter Gorman, an intrepid American, publicized the Kambo rituals he observed and experienced in South America.
Initially viewed as folk medicine by the Western world, science is now looking closely at it, and Kambo has found its way into the most prestigious laboratories in the USA with the aim of creating new treatments, notably against cancer. To date, over 70 patents on components isolated and synthesized from Kambo have been filed worldwide.
Since then, we know that Kambo is composed of many different substances, each with its own effect on the human body. It contains a high rate of peptides from the bradykinin, phyllokinin, tachykinin, phyllomedusin, caerulein, sauvagine, tryptophyllin, dermorphin, deltorphin, and bombesin families, which act in synergy on the heart, spleen, blood and blood vessels, the digestive, hepatic, and pancreatic systems, on salivary and lacrimal secretions, on the central nervous system, and on the immune and lymphatic systems. It’s probably no coincidence that amphibians are emblematic animals in myths, tales, and legends.
What particularly interests medical research is that some of these peptides are among the most powerful anti-inflammatories, antibacterials, and antitumor agents known to date. Some Kambo peptides also act as muscle relaxants and can thus be used for cardiovascular diseases.
